A stable, two-parent household is unequivocally the best way to ensure success of the next generation. Yet, disturbing trends show that, despite the U.S. growing by roughly 46 million people from 2000 to 2018, there were less marriages in 2018 than in 2000.
This is most troubling because of the impact it has on the next generation: from education and crime rates, to mental health and a stable job, in-tact households give a better opportunity to children.
The Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency has studied the impacts of children in a household with two biological parents, against single-parent or step-parent arrangements, and concluded mean levels of delinquency were “lowest among adolescents living with two biological parents.” Additionally, researchers from Princeton, Cornell, and Berkley found the most dramatic causal effect of two-parent households equating to better “outcomes such as high school graduation, children’s social-emotional adjustment, and adult mental health.”
Equally as important as a stable family is the protection of life. In 2018 alone, there were approximately 20,000 abortions in Ohio. That means roughly 57 children were destroyed every day through abortion. Patriots for Ohio supports total abolition of abortion, and contrary to what the talking heads and politicians say, this can be achieved through state-level action.
Patriots for Ohio believes that a healthy, connected family is vital to the success of a child. That is why PFO fully supports ending unnecessary and damaging “marriage tax penalties” in Ohio, massive foster care reform to best suit the children, and will continue to fight to protect our children from being exposed to inappropriate content in public schools and libraries as these discussions should be reserved to the family.
